Samuel Staten, Sr. Charitable Trust…
Giving Back to Our Community – Since 1999
The Samuel Staten, Sr. Charitable Trust, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, supports underserved communities across Philadelphia’s five-county area through various fundraising events. The trust funds to support charities that provide vital services to those in need across Philadelphia’s five-county area and beyond. Originally founded as the Laborers' District Council Charity Fund, it was renamed in 2011 to honor Samuel Staten, Sr., whose legacy of giving as Business Manager of Laborers' Local 332 inspired its creation. The Trust has a long-standing commitment to enhancing the lives of members, their families, and the local community by advocating for jobs, benefits, and a better standard of living.
Rooted in the core principles of unionism—fair wages and workers’ rights—the Trust is dedicated to evolving these ideals. It champions the importance of union-management cooperation and the continued education of its members, ensuring that next-generation unionism remains strong and impactful.
The Qaid Staten Memorial Scholarship Fund provides financial support to deserving students, helping them pursue higher education. Established in memory of Qa’id Staten, who was tragically murdered just before attending Howard University, the scholarship honors his legacy by covering educational expenses like tuition, books, supplies, housing, and educational trips.

We
chose our charities based on how they relate to our members. We have given
to charities that research disease, educate youth, teach life values, provide
a safe haven to disadvantaged children and much more. Our events continue
to be magnificent successes. The longevity of the golf event and the funds
we have raised for various charities prove that organized labor can truly
make a difference in the community.
